Cromwell just goes to show how much I looked at the photo, didn't even register the tennis racket, at least she had plenty of handle to hit the ball with....about what date would you say the picture was please?

Thankyou Cromwell...it now gives me an idea of who it may be, and perhaps by checking 1871 census/1881 census I can work out the address or at least what area of Birmingham it is!!!!  Smiley

Could be the cottages on Church Lane, Handsworth or the Old Town Hall on College Road, Handsworth Wood.

Thankyou Osin, I have just googled Old cottages, Church Lane, Handsworth and there is a canny similarity with the picture I posted, I have tried to load the picture for you to see, but don't know how to change the format of it!!! I also googled Old Town Hall, but think that it is more likely to be the first one, Old Cottages, a big thankyou, I know an 80 year old lady that will be over the moon!!!

Cromwell, your're a mine of information!!  I have a picture of a Garage I used to work in, circa 1960s I think. It's of Padmores Garage Villa street. Lozells. But when I worked there in the 1970s, it was Edwards Bros, aka Windscreen Services. On this 1960s picture you can just see the chimney pots of the house behind the Garage, also owned by the brothers Eddie and Fred Edwards. We! the Wife, daughter and Me, lived in that house for almost 7 years. It was a very old house, built I'm led to believe. around  1800 and something.

The old place was falling down round our ears, but we have some very fond memories of the place and one very!! sad one. We had to leave there in 1977 because it was Compulsory Purchased and marked for demolition. I wondered if you might know where I might be able to get a picture of this house. The Garage and house have long gone, and there are now new houses on there. The old address was 198 Villa street, Lozells.

Cookie55, Just joined the forum hence the late reply. My Uncle was Bill Padmore who owned Padmores Garage on 198 Villa Street. Bill passed away and his son wasn't interested in taking it on at the time so it was sold (I presume) to Eddie and Fred Edwards. I would be keen to see any photos you may have.

Regards
