Without going into your favourite team, unless you generally think your team is the best. Who do you think plays the best football in the English league?

: Re: Football
: Edifi December 26, 2017, 04:48:31 PM
Man city and Spurs  without a doubt ,just see how many goals they have scored, there stiles of play are very similar always have 4 -5 players going forward, nice to watch

: Re: Football
: GardenGerald December 26, 2017, 04:51:45 PM
Edi
Will the Villa get promoted.
I have some doubts
Gerald.

: Re: Football
: townie December 26, 2017, 04:52:37 PM
My choice would be Arsenal I have never seen a team play football like them. Although they don't have the best players they play as a team.

: Re: Football
: Edifi December 27, 2017, 12:22:33 PM
G G ,that must be the joke of 2017 ,this man as lost is way.Good  managers don't just buy players, but managers today are not the same as when we were young, they didn't have all the different coaches then.

: Re: Football
: GardenGerald December 27, 2017, 01:58:23 PM
Hello Ed and Townie
Playing as a team is what matters and sometimes take a chance with a youngster.
Gerald.

G G ,that must be the joke of 2017 ,this man as lost is way.Good  managers don't just buy players, but managers today are not the same as when we were young, they didn't have all the different coaches then.

Who are we talking about Edifi?

: Re: Football
: Edifi December 27, 2017, 11:45:13 PM
This so called manager of A V

: Re: Football
: townie December 27, 2017, 11:52:24 PM
This so called manager of A V

This is why the blues let him go, he done nothing for them and he will do nothing for the Villa.

: Re: Football
: Edifi December 28, 2017, 03:12:10 PM
Football lost its way in this country when we started the one touch system.Used to look out for young players for W B A down here in Kent in the 90s. and was told about the system, wanting all the teams from youths upwards to all play the same.this meant having no individuals .To me this killed the football as we knew it years ago.

: Re: Football
: GardenGerald January 01, 2018, 12:55:46 PM
Hello Ed
I agree, we always played to win and not train to be a ballet dancer.
The best way to score goals is to go forward and shoot or head goal wards.
Gerald.

: Re: Football
: townie January 01, 2018, 05:12:41 PM
Will Mark Hughes get the sack? I can understand why Hughes made the decision to play a weaker side against Chelsea and kept the best side for today but I'm afraid it backfired.

: Re: Football
: GardenGerald January 01, 2018, 06:49:03 PM
Hello Townie
He could unless things improve very quickly.
My shot hit the goalkeeper in the face and now he and the ball are in the back of the net.
Sennelys Park 1959.
Gerald.

: Re: Football
: Edifi January 01, 2018, 08:36:03 PM
Can't see him being there much longer to many bad results

: Re: Football
: townie January 10, 2018, 09:05:17 PM
I didn't think Mark Hughes would last much longer and I was right.

: Re: Football
: Edifi January 10, 2018, 11:28:05 PM
He would probablyreplace him at the Villa ,stupid directors

: Re: Football
: townie January 10, 2018, 11:30:01 PM
To be honest he might do a good job at the Villa.

: Re: Football
: townie January 22, 2018, 08:49:12 PM
Heard today the sad loss of a great footballer R.I.P Jimmy Armfield.

: Re: Football
: townie February 17, 2018, 09:32:53 PM
Okay Question for everyone who is going to win the premiership? Question 2 who is going to be regulated from the premiership?

: Re: Football
: Edifi March 03, 2018, 04:43:04 PM
Only one team in it,and Albion and Stoke to name 2 ,

: Re: Football
: GardenGerald March 03, 2018, 05:39:11 PM
Will the VILLA be promoted and Birmingham relegated.
Gerald

: Re: Football
: Edifi March 04, 2018, 03:48:18 PM
Don't think Villa would be strong enough in the Premiership, they would probably come back down straight away, think Blues are doomed to go down, they were wrong to get rid of the manager last year for that Italian, they were doing so good under him.

: Re: Football
: townie March 11, 2018, 03:02:31 PM
Question for all our football residents. Who was the only manager to Manage Aston Villa, Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion.

: Re: Football
: Edifi March 11, 2018, 08:05:45 PM
Was it Ron Saunders?

: Re: Football
: townie March 11, 2018, 08:43:00 PM
That's correct Edifi well done.

: Re: Football
: Edifi March 11, 2018, 11:21:02 PM
Meet Ron great manager, board wouldn't back him ,as usual at that time they where frightended

: Re: Football
: townie March 13, 2018, 12:46:23 PM
Southampton have sacked manager Mauricio Pellegrino with the team just one point and one place above the Premier League relegation zone with eight games left this season.
So how is Alan Pardew keeping his job? The Baggies have won just once in 28 league games. My opinion is if they stick with Pardew they will be relegated.

: Re: Football
: Edifi March 13, 2018, 11:34:35 PM
On telly tonight Pardew o k till end off season. They will look for a new manager and Pardew pockets  a couple of million.O to be a football manager

: Re: Football
: Edifi May 05, 2018, 05:37:31 PM
Told you Stoke would go down, with a great manager like that.

: Re: Football
: GardenGerald May 11, 2018, 04:27:53 PM
Hello Ed
On the other side someone has doubted that you ever played football.
You did play football, Townie also played and so did I. My last match was when I was 38 years young.
Ignore it Ed
Gerald.

: Re: Football
: Edifi May 11, 2018, 10:25:18 PM
OH Gerald, after seeing some of these goalkeepers and the mistakes they make my heart bleeds, the best one is the United lad.He is a bit agile.

: Re: Football
: GardenGerald May 12, 2018, 12:21:40 PM
Hello Ed
I fully agree with you. Goalkeepers are now much more static for some reason.
Sometimes I would go between the sticks. Take the ball off the forwards foot.
A real hefty one fist punch and get the ball up to the halfway line. Be on he move and change angle.
We do not see much of this now.
Gerald.

: Re: Football
: townie May 12, 2018, 02:10:46 PM
I'm sorry I have to disagree with the both of you. Watch some of the saves these goalkeepers make today they are out of this world. The goalkeepers of yesterday I agree were braver but nowhere as agile. The goalkeeper is probably the loneliest job on the field but make one mistake and he becomes everyone's target on the pitch. The result of a game can depend on your goalkeeper and he is one of the lowest paid players in the team.

: Re: Football
: Edifi May 12, 2018, 03:20:58 PM
Townie, played in goal from age 11 till I was 35,it was never a lonely position but you relied on the defenders in front of you.Imust say I had a good few I front of me.Acouple went to play for Brum  1 to Torquay 1 to Halifax I could have gone to Bournemouth but at17 my parents thought to young to leave home. One of the best leagues was the Worcester Com,I played for Weoley Castle for 5 years and Castle Rvs on Sunday's .Also played with Ron Atkinson and his brother Graham at Lea Village and Banbury Spencer before he left for Oxford City. They were good days won a few cups and medals as well.Keep well ed.

: Re: Football
: townie May 12, 2018, 04:35:55 PM
Ed What years are you talking about? I don't ever remember Lea Village having a football team in the league, I know there were lots of leagues around in them days I played in most of them.

: Re: Football
: townie May 15, 2018, 04:33:00 PM
FA cup final Saturday who's your money on?

Chelsea V Manchester United

I am and always have been a Chelsea fan, more of an armchair supporter these days.

I think Manchester will win 2 0

: Re: Football
: Edifi May 15, 2018, 05:51:41 PM
Townie ,it was when we were at Least Village School we played together,he got me in at Banbury. I left to play in the Worc Com with Weoley Castle after 2 years.THAT was a good league to play in as well as the Coronation Lge with Castle Rovers.

: Re: Football
: townie May 15, 2018, 06:52:37 PM
Ed If I remember correctly the Coronation League was played on a Saturday and the Festival league was played on a  Sunday. Have I got that right?

: Re: Football
: Edifi May 15, 2018, 10:23:11 PM
Never played in the Coronation on Sat always on Sundays morns

: Re: Football
: Edifi May 16, 2018, 09:20:00 AM
Townie, might have been the Festival Lge, long time ago ml.?

: Re: Football
: GardenGerald May 17, 2018, 09:53:30 AM
Well Boys
The Villa just got through will they beat Fulham
Gerald

: Re: Football
: Edifi May 17, 2018, 03:51:22 PM
Gerald ,it will surprise me very much if they do,they have got to have big bonuses attached to do it.  By the way did you see that Sam Alladys got a 6million pay of from Everton plus a bonus for keeping them in the Premiership..Worked out at 56;000aday for the 167 days hard work.H a Ha

: Re: Football
: townie May 22, 2018, 06:31:31 AM
I don't fully know what a professional football manager but for 56.000 a day I wouldn't mind learning. Surely it cant be that hard you have your scouts out there looking for potential players. You have a chairman who tells you what you can spend. I can kick a ball, tell players where to stand on the pitch, and if it don't work in the first half, tell them to stand somewhere else. I have a driving licence so I can drive the company car. I have a valid passport I don't mind flying so I can travel all around the world and when it gets cold in this country we can play on the beach in warmer countries.

I think I have all the qualifications for this job so if there are any football chairmen on the forum look no further I'm your man. (Giss a Job).

townies the name footballs the game.

: Re: Football
: Edifi May 22, 2018, 08:59:18 AM
It's easy townie, you say to the so called millionaires, you are the so called top footballers go out and score goals and win me a trophy.  The thing to me is you can't tell footballers to do this and that when it all happens in a second and mistakes are easy to make,as you see with some stupid defenders messing about in defence instead of getting the ball upfield. As I've said before watched a lot of coaching session at WBA.

: Re: Football
: GardenGerald May 22, 2018, 09:10:15 AM
Townie and Ed
Townie
You have got the job of manager at Barking Mad Rovers.
I am the left goal post and Ed is the right goal post. Mobile goalposts will save all clubs
a fortune. No goalkeeper needed.
Most goal keepers seem not to move. Forwards tap he ball about like its made
of glass.
We will go back to proper leather Balls and proper boots. Shinguards made of cane and
everyone will play 90 minutes. No substitutes.
The good old days are back.
Wheres my whistle.
Gerald.

: Re: Football
: Edifi May 22, 2018, 04:29:55 PM
Half of the fairies that play today wouldn't be able to kick the old leather tatter, they wouldn't be able to walk in the old McGregor boots.Whenwe played in Belgium in 1956 we had to play with their ball ours was to big and heavy for them.
