I just wanted to let you know it was a privilege for my husband John and I to attend Beryl's funeral yesterday. We didn't know until we got there but Dennis (Rupert) and his wife Brenda were there. They actually live within walking distance of our house but I had not seen them for about 20 years, my husband saw them briefly last year. Dennis and I realised we knew each other on the forum a year or two ago, small world!! It was an uplifting funeral and much was said about Beryls poetry and her involvement with the forums. We were pleased to meet her sister Jean and her husband from the States (who still have a little of the Birmingham accent) as they lived close to where I was brought up in Handsworth we had a little to chat about. We were pleased to see Stuart, Robert and other members of the family again. And meet Joyce, Roberts wife who Beryl told me so much about. All those that asked for their sympathy to be passed on to Stuart I did that. I am glad the four of us were able to be there. On the Toronto Star there is a condolence web site, if anyone is interested. I will look for the link. Mo

Update from July 27The service in Beryl's memory was inspiring and a true dedication to her personality and artistic talent. A guestbook is online until August 17 which can be signed by using this link: http://www.legacy.com/guestbook/thestar/guestbook.aspx?n=beryl-mcmullen&pid=144192444&cid=gbsrchresIn memory of my Grandma, lived 83 years. January 8, 1927 to July 16, 2010. I will keep this forum and her poetry website online in her memory and will continue to support it financially. I will not be accepting donations as I know she was against them, my only consideration would be publishing and selling a book of her poetry. It is just a thought, please post any comments.

Robert,
I am so glad to hear you are keeping the forum open. I have no doubt that is exactly what she would have wanted. She must have been very proud of you and with good reason.
I would like to thank you for all the work and support, both financially and otherwise, that you have offered this forum and it's members since it's inception. Your grandmother worked hard to bring this forum into existence and to make it a home for those of us who joined, especially those who were exiled. You are right, Robert, she did not want donations but the idea of a book of her poetry is not only a fitting memorial to her memory but a means of helping the forum and keeping her close to our hearts.

You are right Norma, Beryl was very proud of Robert and having met him and his lovely wife Joyce I can understand why. Keeping the forum is a wonderful dedication to her and I hope it lives on for many years. Mo [attachment removed for upkeep purposes]

To My Lovely friend
Into the walls of my world You entered bringing light to me The vivid colors painted with a swirl Of wit and charm of personality With tender care you comfort warmth And images that line the now bright walls I look upon them fondly bringing forth A thankfulness that you walk in these halls With me our friendship has become a part Of my world now it has its special place Within my being life and in my heart Your name hangs right beside your smiling face Remembering just how drab these walls had been I have to thank you for the light my friend
From Beryl to John
